billie joe armstrong is the lead singer and guitarist of the band green day. he's also a member of the network, foxboro hot tubs, the longshot, the coverups, and pinhead gunpowder. he's also my favorite person in the world. he released his first record - "look for love", when he was only 5 years old. he met his best friend and future bandmate mike dirnt when they were only 10, bonding over their mutual love of music. this was around the time billie's father had passed away. billie has stated that he thinks these events were meant to coincide. his mother bought him his first guitar for his 11th birthday - a fernandes stratocaster he named "blue". he's been using the guitar ever since, recording several of green day's studio albums with it, and even using it to this day in 2026.
billie became interested in punk rock through his older brothers - citing the ramones, hüsker dü, van halen, and the replacements as musical influences. billie and mike started the band sweet children when they were 15 - the band that would later become green day. he dropped out of high school when he was 18 to pursue music.

i think billie joe is one of the most genuine people on earth. i firmly believe him and his bandmates are angels descended upon this earth to make it a better place. half joke. billie joe is very open about his bisexuality - "coming clean" is about him coming to terms with it when he was 17. in 1994 they toured with pansy division and billie would curse out audience members who were disrespecting them. he's also talked a lot about his own struggles with mental health and panic attacks, "basket case" and "panic song" being two examples out of a few. he's very open about his struggle with addiction and alcoholism - especially with the release of saviors. green day has released several singles with the intent of raising money for charity and spreading awareness. i just think he's an amazing person. and he makes me happy. and hearing someone as influental and popular as billie joe armstrong be so open about his beliefs is really nice.
